Mined Moments

In 2022 I took Simon Fraser University’s The Writer’s Studio part-time creative writing program is designed for writers who are ready to immerse themselves in a manuscript. One of the most helpful behaviours I learned in the course and have integrated into my writing life is mining the world around me for moments of inspiration. I use these moments little moments for inspiration, as prompts and/or imagery in my poems. Writers of other genres use these moments to help build their characters, scenes, background, plot and more. To read more about this practice please check out Janet Fretter’s essay “Awake in the World” from the book Resonance.

Follow me on Bluesky for the poetic moments I collect throughout daily life.
